Story of how it was created?

There were three main moments that really pushed me toward starting Bonobo Baby and developing the first baby bidet.


When I had my first son five years ago, I was so frustrated with baby wipes while trying to clean his poopy little bum. One day, he had a particularly messy diaper — you know how poop can get everywhere, not just on the cheeks — and I was trying to clean him quickly so I could get out the door for work. He was screaming because the wipes were irritating him, and I felt like nothing was coming off.


Then I noticed a spray bottle of water nearby and thought, “Why not?” I sprayed him off, and it worked like magic. I felt like I had just discovered the secret! I carried that spray bottle around for a while, but it wasn’t convenient — my husband and I were always asking each other, “Where’s the spray bottle?” Eventually, I just gave up on it, wishing there was a way to make water as accessible as wipes.


Two years later, I had my baby girl — and girls are a whole different situation. She actually ended up hospitalized with a UTI that had entered her bloodstream at just five weeks old. I remember blaming myself, wondering what I did wrong, and the pediatrician told me baby wipes aren’t the best for baby girls. She recommended bathing her after every diaper change, which wasn’t possible with a toddler and a job.


That’s when I started using the spray bottle method again. It was so much easier — but I still kept thinking, “Someone else needs to figure out a way to make this convenient.”


Fast forward a year later. My son was diagnosed with autism, and that lit a fire in me. I wanted to make sure I could always provide for him financially. One day, he came home from his therapy program with poop stuck to him. I wasn’t even mad — I just thought about how hard it is to clean with wipes alone and how much easier it would have been if water had been available.


That was my turning point. I stopped waiting for “someone else” to figure it out and decided to create it myself. It started step by step — testing ideas, getting feedback, sewing prototypes by hand, selling on Etsy — until I grew it into the business we have today.

What separates you from your competition?

Honestly, my biggest competitor is a simple spray bottle of water! And I tell parents that. If you can keep track of one and it works for you — great! But parents also need wipes, and I wanted a solution that works seamlessly with them.


From day one, I focused on building a brand, not just a product. I started sharing my journey on social media before I even had a product, logo, or design finalized. I shared every step — asking moms to test spray bottles, gathering feedback, redesigning based on what people told me — so that parents felt part of the journey.


That connection is what makes us different. I’m a mom, I use the product myself, and I involve my customers every step of the way.

How did you balance not growing too fast?

Inventory has been our biggest challenge. I didn’t spend a single dollar on advertising until just two months ago because I wanted to make sure I could fulfill demand. Even now, when sales spike, I sometimes have to slow things down to avoid selling out completely.


It’s a delicate balance of keeping enough inventory on hand, slowly increasing marketing efforts, and preparing for the next step — which will eventually mean outsourcing shipping and fulfillment.


What have you learned since becoming an entrepreneur?

I’ve learned how much you can actually handle when you have a strong enough reason to keep going. Entrepreneurship is an emotional roller coaster — the highs keep you motivated, but the lows can be brutal.


When I hit those low points, I remind myself of challenges I’ve overcome in the past — from severe postpartum depression to moving across the country — and that I survived them. That perspective keeps me from giving up.

As you are out of the diaper phase, how has your social media changed?

My daughter is out of diapers, so there are no more diaper changes in my house. But I still use the product — mostly for cleaning my kids in public restrooms, where toilet paper just doesn’t cut it.


I still create content to demonstrate how much easier cleanup is with water. Sometimes I do funny or viral-style demonstrations — like cleaning peanut butter off pumpkins — to show how effective it is. My goal now is to expand Bonobo Baby into other convenient, health-conscious products that grow with parents as their kids grow.

What aspect of entrepreneurship do you appreciate the most?

The pride. Every time I look at the finished product — something I created from scratch — it still feels surreal.


I also love the connections I’ve made. Social media allows me to connect with other parents, hear their stories, and even send gifts to some of them. And the entrepreneur community is amazing — even very successful business owners are often willing to share advice and help you grow.

Do you have a moment that brings you the most joy?

Absolutely — the day I opened a box and saw my product completely packaged and ready to ship for the first time.


In the beginning, I had to assemble everything myself — putting the pouch and spray bottle together, packing them, and shipping them out. Seeing a fully finished, beautifully packaged product made it feel so real.

Piece of Advice

Don’t focus on the entire big picture all at once — it’s too overwhelming. Just take one small step forward.


For me, the first step wasn’t building a product or finding a manufacturer. It was simply asking moms to try using a spray bottle of water and tell me if it made a difference. Their feedback told me I was on to something — and that encouraged me to take the next step.


Starting small and building momentum step by step is the key.
