Some Background on Nuritas

Today's edition of "Together Talks" campaign, KLS had the opportunity to interview Nuritas and Jenelle Benson, Business Development Director. Through pioneering life science and artificial intelligence, they developed their unique Nuritas MagnifierNπΦ platform. Unknown start

The beginning of the company was in 2014 when Dr. Nora Khaldi created Nuritas. A mathematician and scientist with an entrepreneurial spirit set out to apply data to the human body in the form of peptides. Based out of Dublin, Ireland, Nuritas expanded creating their commercial team in July 2022.


Jenelle mentioned when she started she was a bit terrified. Her prior career experience was with companies who had exposure, longevity, heck even customers. Starting at a completely new company in a new market was a challenge. She was hired to help oversee the expansion and help promote the company and introduce it to the masses. Jenelle shared that the first hurdle was getting prospective companies to feel comfortable with this level of innovation and clinicals to formulate to products.


Jenelle shared a funny anecdote with us, "I remember on day 2 I was still trying to figure out the organizational chart and who to reach out to!" Fast forward a year and a half later and she was so proud of the team's efforts to build a network of incredible brands either already partnered with or interested in partnering together at some point in the future. Jenelle explained that despite the challenge of creating a foundation with an essential blank slate, it was the technology and possibility that inspired her to join Nuritas.


Jenelle explained, "My current manager, Rizwan Khan, we had worked together previously at a much larger company, The Kerry Group. He told me what Nuritas was doing: using artificial intelligence to find peptides in plants. Then clinically testing them and commercializing them. Doing this by using the most up to date innovative technology to find things to get us back into nature. And, you know, nature kind of provides everything we need, we just have to find it. Once I heard that story, I was like, this is something extremely interesting. This is something I, I want to get behind."

Jenelle explained that the aspect of her work she enjoys most is the relationship building. Not only the previously mentioned network that Nuritas continues to expand, but the client relationships as well. She said having customers reach out to them directly for insight is not only a great feeling, but validation that what they are doing is working. Jenelle continued, "Because ultimately when you wake up in the morning and go to work, you want to be excited about it."

Unicorn

Jenelle believes that as a whole Nuritas is in a class of their own. Some companies use AI for discovery, but very few if any are bringing the full transition in the capacity that Nuritas offers. It starts with identifying and unlocking molecules from plants, particularly peptides. Nuritas takes it a step further with their commercialization process. Identifying it is just the first step, but they then will produce clinicals to ultimately take the product to market.


Having their AI inhouse allows them to innovate more quickly than most companies in the discovery phase. As an ingredient company, they have the platform to continuously discover and innovate. This allows them to partner with companies to provide a unique solution to improve a product. Products and ingredients in the pipeline to support consumers' wants and needs including support with sleep, stress, bone support, joint support, and many others. Challenges

Joining a start up in this market posed an immediate question for Jenelle, "How do I tackle this?" This was a completely different setting to what she was accustomed to. Previously she was at a large company that was launching a new ingredient backed by a following and brand awareness. She mentioned how there was so much to explain in a short amount of time. One aspect she credits is the personalization of her prospecting. Getting the story right was imperative to grab the attention of brands and companies who might be a future fit.


Reflecting back on her original emails and messages, Jenelle said they are much different today. Originally they were too technical and detail focused. Now she tries to capture the big picture of what Nuritas can offer a company. By simplifying her message and then personalizing it, she has seen the ROI significantly improve. She stated how important it is for her to do the research, study their formulations, where they are sold, their value proposition, and from all of that she can carefully craft a message specific for that company. "My goal is for it to not feel like any other email, when you read my message explaining Nuritas.", she informed us.


Having to not only educate brands and companies but ultimately the end user to understand what a peptide is and does continues to be something Nuritas strives for. When people understand what they are, it simplifies the process for explaining how they can provide on those wants. Jenelle shared that the company attended Supply Side West in 2023 and that was the first moment she truly felt the company was stable, secure, and trending in the right direction. "At the show we had a booth and had meetings set up with big credible companies. We secured these meetings because they were interested in us. But we also had exceptional foot traffic at our booth with people telling us they had heard of us or were curious why we were so busy. The feedback we received during that show provided proof that what we are working on is gaining momentum and we are building the right way.", Jenelle shared.


Possibilities

When the lightbulb clicked for Jenelle it was one word that stuck in her mind, possibilities. At the end of the day that is what excites her so much about Nuritas. The possibilities are endless. The Nuritas AI platform, The Magnifier, is capable of screening animals, fungi, plants, and bacteria for efficacious peptides. However, the current focus is solely natural plant sources. From there, the discovery process is to find peptides that work from a cell-signaling mechanism (e.i. the peptide has a structure that activates a certain binding site). Finding the right peptide structure can theoretically support almost anything. Many ingredients in the market have been the same for quite awhile, but this is an opportunity to differentiate. Providing efficacy and true health and wellness improvements to differentiate any product is what Nuritas offers with their peptide discovery.


The company has launched two products and have more in the pipeline. Continuing to gain brand awareness is the goal for the upcoming year. Jenelle said they hope to continue on the progress from last year by improving on their partnerships and growing visibility. This is achieved with further innovation and continued proof of concept with completed full cycle runs. Thinking back on her nearly two year journey so far, Jenelle said she is most proud of the meetings they have with customers who state how what Nuritas is doing is ground breaking and one of the most interesting things currently being developed. Jenelle shared that while it may be too early to partner with some, they all encourage them to keep going because of how revolutionary it is.


We asked Jenelle how difficult it has been essentially being first to market with such innovation, she elaborated, "We still learn every day. You're right there isn't a playbook for us because we are so unique. But we continue to hone in and focus on what we should do next and it all starts with consumers and their wants and needs. We fit a lot of the boxes currently in demand and believe we will continue to innovate with demands in the future."


Piece of Advice

The conversation with Jenelle ended with her sharing her piece of advice:

"Keep going even if you're discouraged. Keep doing the right thing. Be who you are as well. As someone that is a younger female in business, I often tried to mask myself or be a little different to please who I am meeting. I'm working on this. Be your authentic self. That will shine through and people will respect you and appreciate you more for it, whether internally or externally. Not easy to do, but necessary for your own self and for others around you."

We handle every shipment with the exact same process. It does not matter if you move one shipment a year or ten per day, you will receive the same level of customer service from us. When we started this company, we had one goal in mind, treat every shipment like it was our own. Our Process?

Every shipment in our industry starts with a quote. We are firm believers that time is money, thus we strive to have quotes back in a 5-10 minute reply time for LTL and FTL, any FCL quotes are at the mercy of the carriers getting back to us. For LTL we have the flexibility to quote both off of NMFC and also Density depending on the carrier. Utilizing our services, you’re allowing us to use our expertise to class your freight accordingly to ensure we are providing the best rate we possibly can.

Once a quote has been submitted and a client chooses to proceed with KLS handling the arrangement of the shipment our full process begins. We create the BOL that will be used for the shipment. If it is a new location for our system, we will obtain all the important/special details (reference numbers, contact details, shipping hours, closed for lunch, dock/doors, etc.). We meticulously build every detail into our software for all future shipments involving that location. After we have both locations built and necessary reference numbers have been applied we will tender the shipment to the carrier. We use this method because it provides us a real time pickup number from the carrier to obtain updates prior to pickup. Our staff will either email the BOL directly to you or to the shipper (at your request) the minute after the tender has been accepted by the carrier. LTL carriers require a 2 hour window prior to close time in order to schedule it for a same-day pickup attempt.

The following morning you’ll receive an email from us. It will either provide the reason the pickup was missed (driver’s trailer filled up, driver missed the close time, truck broke down, shipper said no freight, etc.) or if the pickup was successful you will receive the PRO (tracking) number from us, along with the eta for delivery. Our staff will track it throughout the duration of transit and advise if anything happens that will alter the estimated delivery date. The day the shipment delivers we will email you with confirmation and the POD (Proof of Delivery), should you require it.

Your shipment has been quoted, scheduled, picked up, and delivered. The next step is waiting for the carrier to invoice us and make sure the rate matches up. If it does, we close out the invoice from the carrier in our system and automatically your invoice is created and sent to the requested party at your company. In the event the carrier has an additional charge on their invoice “Variance”, we will never send you an invoice with an additional charge without first identifying you of the charge.

Let us repeat, NEVER WILL WE JUST BILL OUT AN EXTRA CHARGE WITHOUT YOU BEING NOTIFIED.

You are our customer, we represent you. Should the carrier provide an extra charge on an invoice, “Lift gate, additional weight, reclass, detention, etc.) We notify you of the charge via email first. Second, within that email we identify what is required should you choose to dispute the charge. Again our goal is to honor your request, if you want to dispute, we will dispute. During a dispute we will provide you updates every step along the way. Once a dispute is closed out, whether it is approved or rejected, then we will invoice you as the invoice has been resolved.

For reference, our company only had 6.2% of all shipments go to dispute in 2022 and we successfully won 91% of those disputes on behalf of our customers.

This is our process for every single shipment you move with us. We don’t cut corners, we don’t hide from difficult situations. We believe in being available, honest, and transparent. We don’t ever want to tell you that a shipment is lost, damaged, misrouted, but it is our duty to notify you the second we find out something has gone wrong. We hate to present bad news, but it is part of the job. What you can guarantee is that we will work a shipment all the way through and turn over every stone until we get a resolution for our clients.


Services offered?

Our core business is LTL and FTL. Within these options we have options for both dry and refrigerated/frozen. We also offer FCL/Drayage options. Our company as a 3PL has nationwide options and services clients across the US.


Let’s breakdown our services more in-depth

LTL: Standard and Guaranteed CFS (Imports & Exports) Tradeshows Hazmat Anything that is on a pallet can be moved LTL. Typically LTL is up to 10 pallets, but the sweet spot for a carrier is 6-8 pallets at most for an individual shipment. LTL quotes are good between 5-30 days depending on the carrier. LTL can be quoted either via NMFC or density to determine the class (we do this for you).

Volume: Anything over 10-12’ of space in the truck is the technical rule for a volume shipment. When we run a quote for you we will determine if it qualifies for volume and provide you a rate if available. Volume moves allow you to get a reduced rate for larger shipments. The caveat to volume shipments it the quotes are only valid for 3-7 days and they move on capacity between terminals. If a terminal is backed up they will move their LTL freight first before the volume freight, which can lead to longer transit times for volume moves.

FTL/Dedicated/Expedited: 53’ Dry and Reefer 26’ Box trucks with lift gate Sprinter Van The main difference for FTL vs LTL is space and transit time. For standard pallets you can fit either 26 or 30 pallets in a 53’ dry van. The other main difference is transit time, for FTL each day counts in the transit time, whereas LTL does not count the day of pickup, weekends, or holidays in their transit time.
