Friend's suggestion
In May of 2022, Camilla started her company Qi Health. But it was 10 months prior that led her down the path to help others. This was her first experience finding long-term chronic relief at the result of Chinese medicine herbs. A friend of hers suggested she give it a shot, a form of medicine she had never experienced prior. For the previous decade, Camilla shared she had a chronic condition. Over that decade she had met with health experts in three different European countries trying to find a solution to cure her period pain. "The exam was completely different than anything I had ever experienced. They tied everything together between skin tone, sleep, digestion, my cycle, all in an effort to explain the root cause that was creating the symptoms I was experiencing.", Camilla explained. Her doctor created a custom herbal medicine formulation.
1 month later, Camilla said she felt 70% less pain.
3 months after that...she was pain free.
Almost 3 years later, she is still pain free and on no medicine!
This sparked immediate interest in Camilla's mind and she began doing market research to find a technical co-founder to make this form of medicine more main stream and accessible. Camilla wanted to bring the natural, evidence-based, effective approach to herbal medicine online and accessible to women all across the country. Current day, they are partnered with practitioners, including professors who teach these forms of medicine in universities.
All Natural
Qi Health is the first company to bring the high-quality service and the highly customized herbal medicine online. "The reason the success level is so high is the Doctors customize every formulation. We don't believe in one size fits all like most supplement or medicine companies. And everything we prescribe is medicinal doses, meaning 15 x of what you can find on retail shelves or e-commerce stores.", Camilla shared. Each prescription typically has up to 20 different herbs, customized to symptoms, their severity and other medications patients are taking. Their target demographic is women suffering from any female health related issue. Camilla shared that the Western world doesn't have enough support or conduct enough research for women’s issues. Often doctors look only at the symptoms and attempt to treat it, an example being most often prescribing birth control for period pain.
Camilla wants to share this alternative form of medication with the world, that has scientific evidence, centuries of use, and billions of people healed, while being completely plant based. As well as share the access to having certified herbalists who have healed thousands of patients and possess the ability to get rid of all the health issues a patient faces, not just one.
Camilla said that this form of medicine has been proven scientifically in clinical trials and used by most of the world population. She hopes Qi Health can bring it into a modern framework here in the US. Wanting to give back to other women, Camilla shared she didn't have a movie-esque "aha" moment in wanting to create this company, she just realized the healing power of medicinal herbs and that women needed it. Her first principle thinking was to build a hypothesis and data tree. She told us she needed to get out there and ask women about their bodies. She learned that 9/10 women (all ages, regardless of age or ethnicity) have some cycle related issues, realizing there was definitely a need for the platform she envisioned. As tele-health became more important and used during Covid, Camilla believes she can help combine ancient with modern medicine practices through Qi Health.
Shifting consumer's mind
The largest challenge Camilla shared is communicating this unknown form of care. Shifting the mindset of consumers is difficult because female health is under-researched and under-funded. Camilla said sadly they have found clients who have "a nothing left to lose" mentality to find relief. Her hope is that instead this becomes the first choice for women who are facing any sort of health issue. Instead many women spend years wrecking their body due to the constant chronic pain. "If we can get women to understand this is the first choice and not the last ditch option, it can change so many individual's health for the better.", Camille implored.
Qi Health started with an internal trial to test Camilla's hypothesis within the business. Would patients see the same success and relief that Camilla had experienced? Indeed they did. Camilla broke it down for us, "The body is so full of inflammation that it has endured for so long that it’s out of balance. Once our solution heals a patient, the real magic starts. Once the body is healed it is able to heal itself if inflammation arises". It takes around four months to find full relief. And it is long-term relief! Their medicinal doses are 10-15x what is currently available, remember still all plant based and found from nature.
Camilla explained that their very first patient became their first investor. She was so amazed with the success she brought on five additional people to be treated after her trial was successful. She shared a few heartwarming stories with us, "One patient called after she was healed to say she booked a vacation while being on her period for the first time because it was the first time she didn't have to worry about bleeding through her clothes in public. Another became pregnant within 3 months of taking the herbs after multiple IVF trials. We are giving women 5 full days a month back. That is two months every year."
An incredible mission with remarkable results. Camilla is hoping to continue making it more accessible for everyone. It works better, has no to very minor side-effects than any current prescribed medications. And best of all it can be life-changing. Now you don’t have to spend 7 minutes with a doctor to have them prescribe something that masks symptoms. Getting to the root of the problem and getting true relief is fully fixing the problem and that should be the first choice as Camilla hopes.
The quest
Prior to Qi Health, Camilla had bootstrapped her first business to exit. Her Co-Founder, jokes with her about her very "organized, direct, German mindset" while creating this company. Prior to bringing on her Co-Founder, Nam Le, Camilla worked with two other individuals but ultimately they were not the right fit. She knew once she met Nam that together they could take this company to the next level. Streamlining their process, creating the most efficient model possible is their current goal. They are building an AI company that uses human data to determine the root cause of a problem and have a prescription ordered and delivered within 2 days. Camilla shared that when people give it a shot, they immediately see a decrease in symptoms that are so vast in the first month they almost always stick.
The first batch of patients having major treatment success was a pivotal moment, after having gone through so many previous trials and tribulations. Running a company, Camilla loves the fact that no two days are the same. She has a thirst for solving a problem and the thrill behind finding a solution. "I joke with Nam that we eat shit all the time as founders or are banging our head against the wall, but this is better for me than sitting in a cubicle.", Camilla joked. Her first business had similar threads as it dealt with people and making them healthier. She confirmed that she loves the satisfaction when something goes right, specifically citing being so close to breaking the code and then ultimately crossing that threshold. Camilla added, "We understand that once we scale this we get to help heal X amount of people. Then we get to multiply that and multiply that and do it over and over. This never ending exploration is so exciting."
For this upcoming year Camilla hopes that the company can continue to increase the amount of people they can heal. One hurdle is finding the best way to get this information and their services out to women. Also her focus is on retention and getting patients to understand that taking the medicine 3x a day doesn't have to be as draining as it has been with prior experiences, instead their focus is a more of a holistic experience, it’s a lifestyle. Qi Health wants to continue facilitating and launching partnerships with many organizations and companies that will help make it more accessible and accepting. "We want to shine a light on the oldest medicine in the world.", Camilla continued.
We asked Camilla what is so important about this calling to her, she answered, "We are doing this for humans. We don’t want to cut corners, or sell stuff that doesn’t work. We are solving a real need. That has always been the case and will always be the case. We see supplement companies selling low-dose, one ingredient stuff, and certified herbalists challenge it because it is offering no benefit." She mentioned that seeing companies get big without performing any benefits for consumers can be frustrating, but it is motivating to bring this level of change to the forefront. Then she reflects back, "Those tough moments I think back to the testimonials I've received and the feedback from those we have helped discover a cure for their pain or health mystery. I lean on those interactions to keep going. The world has changed and continues to change. Something has shifted and in my heart I believe a market pull is coming. When it does, Qi Health will be here to help every woman looking for real, natural and long-lasting solutions."
Piece of Advice
The conversation with Camilla ended with her sharing this piece of advice:
"Regardless of what it is, I believe it always comes down to intuition. As a German, it has to make sense in the brain, and I might overrule that stomach feeling. But deep down you know if you’re on the right track or not. You know and you need to listen to that feeling. I believe this is the formula for a successful life. Life is made up of opportunities and relationships, short, long, colorful, boring, you will know which ones to invest in as long as you are listening to your intuition."
